Cultural Origins

In the summer of 1871, a thick fog enveloped the coast of New Zealand. The "Brinell" cruise ship, like a leaf, was tossed in the dangerous reefs. The captain cried out in despair, "My God, we're finished…" Suddenly, he spotted a white dot on the sea not far ahead. He sped up the ship to catch up with the white dot, which turned out to be a white dolphin (later known as Jack). The captain thought for a moment and decided to follow the dolphin. It seemed as if the dolphin had come specifically for this ship, leading it through the dense fog, past the reefs, and safely reaching a secure area. At that moment, the dolphin disappeared…

From then on, every ship passing through the area would encounter this strange "navigator." Although the area was full of reefs, no ship ever ran aground with Dolphin Jack leading the way. Once, Dolphin Jack was guiding a ship when a passenger, thinking the dolphin's guidance was the devil's work, secretly shot and wounded it. However, a few weeks later, the kind-hearted dolphin reappeared. To ensure the safety of navigation in the area, the New Zealand government enacted a law: "No one is allowed to harm this white dolphin...". Since then, the dolphin has loyally guided every passing ship. Countless days and nights have passed, and there have been no accidents in the area. In 1912, Dolphin Jack ended its 40-year career as a "volunteer pilot" and quietly passed away. The locals, with a sense of attachment, had divers find its remains, covered it with a national flag, held a funeral for it, and cast a bronze statue in its memory for future generations…

Scientific research shows that dolphins can navigate because they have sonar early warning capabilities. As for why they are so dedicated to guiding ships, why they repeatedly save people from maritime disasters, but never harm people, and why they collectively fight back when attacked by sharks, but only watch with sad eyes when humans hurt a dolphin, it remains a mystery...

Perhaps we are more willing to believe that dolphins are sent by God to protect mankind!
